Blocked Drain in Albany Creek

Blocked Drain in Albany Creek

A blocked drain can be from a few different reasons, such as a squashed pipe or tree roots.  Tree roots are a major cause of drain blockages and must be rectified as the problem will only worsen with time.  If a tree root penetrates a pipe, it is highly likely that it will still grow in the pipe.  The tree root system grows to where food and water are located.  If you have a crack in a pipe, it is very likely a tree root will enters the drainage line.  A tree root can still penetrate and break a pipe even if there is no crack to begin with.

Warwick had fun recently clearing a gurgling shower drain line.  Tree roots can penetrate any drain if given the chance and the results are terrible.  This shower drain was completely full of tree roots and the line has now been repaired to ensure this doesn’t continue to happen.  The owner simply heard a constant gurgling in from the shower drain but over time it became worse.  Little did they know it was actually this bad!  The repair was only a small section of pipework but some instances see an entire drainage line being repaired.

5 Quick & Easy Tips to Ensure You Don’t Run Out of Hot Water This Winter

5 Quick & Easy Tips to Ensure You Don’t Run Out of Hot Water This Winter

Have you ever had your hot steaming shower rudely interrupted by ice cold water running down your back?

Especially in the middle of winter?

About 25% of the energy used in your home goes towards heating your water so there should be no excuses for having a cold shower!

Here are 5 quick and easy tips to ensure you never have a cold shower again!

1. Check the hot water system’s general condition

Look for any signs of rust or degradation on the exterior of the tank itself.

Start at the seams on the tank, which can be a weak spot. (this is particularly true of older tanks.)

While the inside itself may function (and heat the water), if there is a leak from the seams, you will be losing hot water and/or wasting electricity/gas.

Also make sure the hot water tank hasn’t misshapen as that would indicate that it’s time to call a plumber.

Lastly, check for rust. This usually goes hand-in-hand with leakage, but can also be caused by the tank itself degrading over time.

2. Inspect the Safety Relief Valve

If you’ve got a continuous dribble in your hot water valve, you might have particles caught in the valve itself.

This is a pretty easy fix.

Gently open the valve with the control lever or knob, and release a bit of water.

This will hopefully move any particles, dust or what have you caught in the mechanism.

Anything more than a drip, contact us and we’ll come out and take a look for you.

3. Inspect other hot water system valves

If you’ve got a continuous dribble on any kind coming from the hot water system valves, it may mean you are wasting valuable water.

In these cases, you may need to enlist a plumber to inspect the possible replacement of the valves.

4. Size Matters!

An undersized water heater is usually the culprit if it seems like you never have enough hot water in your home.

If the problem is chronic—or if you’ve increased your needs for hot water by installing a big new soaking tub or high-flow shower head—you’ll probably need to get a new, larger water heater.

We’ve got access to some great hot water service dealers and can organise and replace your hot water system for you if needed.

5. Type of Hot Water System

Knowing what kind of hot water system you have can make a huge difference.

It’s surprising how many owners are unaware of having to fill their hot water units!

Check to see if your property’s water storage unit that requires filling with water every 3 months.

If it is a gas hot water system, check to see if the pilot light is still lit?

Taking the time to check your hot water system for these common issues could mean the difference between a hot and a cold shower tonight!

If you find that your hot water system needs a little extra attention by a professional plumber call the team at Plumbaround today.

Water leak in Keperra

Water leak in Keperra

Water Leaks on your property can go undetected for a long time before you or the council notice. It some cases you won’t know about a leak on your property until your water meter has been read by council.

We have recently attended to many cases where the main water lines have needed to be excavated in order to find the water leak below ground.

Once the damaged section has been located, we are able to repair the copper or poly pipe using the correct and approved fittings. We test all works to ensure everything is okay and then re instate the ground cover.

The first below picture was taken recently in Keperra and luckily the tenant identified the leak straight away in the front yard from the water pooling in one area.

This leak was quite slow and the leak itself was found on a split 25mm poly.  The issue was found and the repair was completed in a time manner.

This second picture is of a main water supply line in Carseldine that had been leaking for months and was only identified after council had read the water meter and found the property had a very excessively high water usage!

Plumbaround Pty Ltd can find just about every leak there is and repair it to ensure you do not waste any more water on your property than is necessary.

Some water leaks can waste up to 800 litres per day and this can go on for months!

Contact us on 3038-1038 at Plumbaround Pty Ltd is you suspect a water leak on your property and we will have a Qualified Plumber attend ASAP.

Blocked Drain in Everton Park

What’s our favourite job here @ Plumbaround Pty Ltd?? A drain clearance!!  The amount of drain clearances we attend to is usually 1-2 per day.  Our young apprentice Matt is learning the ropes to clear a blocked drain with one of our Drain Cleaner Machines.

Drain ClearanceThis drain in Everton Park used 8 rods to clear, most likely right on the council connection to the property.  We pulled back large tree roots from a root penetration located at around 6 rods down the drain.  We use a specific head on the end of the drain cleaner which is able to cut the roots blocking the pipework.  Some of these roots are pulled back with the drain cleaner and others push through the line.

It’s amazing what we find hiding and blocking drains.  Things that should not be flushed but are flushed!!  The most common reason is broken pipework where a root penetration happen has happened.  Where break has occurred, if not repaired in a timely manner, the drain is highly likely to block again.  Over time the blockages worsen as does the break in the pipework.

Clearing a drain is not for the feint hearted and is usually a not so nice job but hey, someone has to do it!  Our equipment is maintained to ensure we can unblock the majority of drains and ensure the safety of our staff as well.

We are available day and night to clear blocked drains, and only a phone call away!  Please don’t hesitate to contact us.  Phone or email, we will respond straight away!!

Water leak repair in Brisbane City

Check out this video Boxing day fun of the water leak Warwick attended to on Boxing Day 2016!  😯 😥   The leak was in a high rise in Brisbane City with no plumbing suppliers open to source parts from because of the Boxing Day public holiday.  Upon arrival to the high rise building, Plumbaround Pty Ltd found a constant dripping from the ceiling from floor 22 in the corridor.Screen Shot 2017-01-20 at 8.01.37 AM

After investigation work, Warwick found there to be a split in the pipe on a bend. In an attempt to install a repair band on the damaged which is directly on the elbow (bend of the pipe), it has worsened the leak and then needed to be cut out.  Without suppliers open to source the parts he needed, Warwick has had to fabricate a new bend out of what parts he had available in the truck.

The affected section of pipework has been cut out while still under pressure (hot water still flowing through the pipe) as the hot water was unable to be fully shut down.  Hours later and after testing all works, the repair band was holding pressure! Exciting times, with burns to his hands and all  😥Screen Shot 2017-01-20 at 8.01.57 AM

Flooded house in Yeronga

screen-shot-2017-01-05-at-11-41-36-am

Happy New Year to all our wonderful clients, partners and suppliers!  We feel as though there was no real break between 2016 and 2017, although Warwick did manage to have Christmas day off though!!  This has been the most hectic time of the year we’ve ever experienced and we’ve really hit the ground running for a great start to 2017!

Here are a couple of pics from a job recently over the New Year’s public holidays in Yeronga, where the property was flooding through the house.  Upon investigation, we found the issue to be much bigger than first anticipated.  img_8866

This is a wooden floor board removed off the back deck, underneath is basically a swimming pool in the heavy rains experienced in the area.  The water pooled in so quickly and the only way the water could escape is by seeping into the inside of the property.

We attended site around 10:30pm at night.  Whilst there was nothing we could instantly do in the dark and the rain, I know it put the tenants mind at ease that we were able to attend so urgently.

Trouble-shooting and problem solving plays a big part in plumbing.  Our plumbers can img_8865investigate an issue and problem solve basically on the spot for the best outcome and solution to a pressing issue.

We thank all our clients and partners for their patience over this very busy period as we endeavour to assist everyone in a timely manner, and as always we place high priority on emergencies first but we aim to attend to every job!

Please don’t hesitate to contact us day or night for all your plumbing and gas fitting needs.  We are only a phone call away.
